Broadway North of Montrose, 1926 — Arcadia Ballroom, McJunkin Building

Here is a fantastic scene of Broadway just north of Montrose. You can see the exquisite blue and white terracotta building, torn down a few years ago, a rare view of the Arcadia Ballroom with Wilson Yards behind, the McJunkin building at Wilson just up the way, and far off in the distance the rooftop marquee of the recently completed Uptown Theatre. Thanks to reader Mike M. for sharing this one!

Holy Cow! The old terracotta was beautiful. Image posted via Flickr's "Share on Blogger" feature. Thanks to Uptown Update for first locating this photographer.

McJunkin Building, Wilson and Broadway, Uptown Chicago

Another great image from our favorite eBay seller. It shows the McJunkin Building, at Wilson and Broadway, in 1956.

It is available for purchase here: McJunkin Building

For a 1970s image of the McJunkin we posted way back in 2007, go here: McJunkin in the Seventies.

The McJunkin building was designed by Arthur Gerber, who also designed the Wilson Avenue El Station.

View of the McJunkin Building

The McJunkin Building was designed by Arthur Gerber, who also designed the Wilson El Station across the street. It was built on the former site of the Lower Wilson station.

Update: I originally thought this photo was from the 80s, based on the date listed for it, but Irish Pirate pointed out that the cars are older, so perhaps it's from the early 70s.
