Sheridan and Argyle, Uptown Chicago 1936

Holy cow! My condo is at Argyle and Winthrop — this first image blows my mind. It's the only photo I've seen of the Argmore Theater. The street looks nothing like this today.

Detail:

From the IDOT collection. Below: Looking down Sheridan from Argyle, toward the Edgewater Beach Hotel, which is on the right side of the street just north of Foster.

I went to see the Argmore building this afternoon after seeing its picture on this site. Imagine how I felt when when I got back to the Uptown History site tonight and saw the latest photo with the theater.
Many Many thanks
Al

Although I've shopped in the liquor store there more than a few times, I've never seen their storage room, which is said to have some traces of the theater decor left.

This might be my favorite image I've posted tonight.
