Howey's 5120 Broadway at Winona

Neither one of these images of 5120 Broadway show the building as it is today. The first one shows it as a single story! The second one, circa 1983, shows a tower quite different from what is seen now:
Today, the building houses the South-East Asia Center. I have to admit, a small part of me wishes that the building still served as an entertainment destination. It would make a fabulous beer garden today, wouldn't it?

This is one building I wish had remained a restaurant!

I concur on this completely. I vote at this location every election day and I have to stop and look around and imagine what it must have been like back in the days when it was a happening hotspot. I agree, that patio would be amazing.

Around 1940, this was known as "Winona Gardens" and was the club at which Danny Thomas got his start as a comedian. Some time ago, I was able to reminisce with Mr. Thomas' agent and we swapped stories about this property (as much as I could since I was little more than a gleam in my father's eye at the time.

I did grow up on this remarkable street---Winona--and have many great memories from the forties and fifties.

I thought he got his start at the 5100 Club a few doors down. You might be interested in seeing some of these pictures, including a promo for Danny Thomas: 5100 Club. I'll see if I can dig up some information on Winona Gardens.

Do you have any photos of Winona from when you were growing up?

The location continues to brings sustenance and social interaction to another generation of immigrants providing senior daycare services and offering much needed low cost meals to seniors via the Golden Diners Program. Energy assistance, social services as well as children's daycare and educational services are upstairs.South-East Asia Center has made a point to maintain and preserve the original look of the outside facade.

I don’t want to live my years with books, and I found an assistant to make it easier, they can write my essays for me, which will quickly and efficiently complete any custom written work for everyone.
