Argmore Theatre, Argyle and Kenmore, Chicago

Today the building houses a liquor store, and a darn convenient one from my condo, but what fun it would be if it was still a theatre!

The Argmore (located at Argyle and Kenmore—see what they did there?) was opened in 1913, and two years later was purchased by the Alfred Hamburbger circuit. In 1922, it was taken over by the Gumbiner Brothers, and in the 1930s by the Essaness circuit. It eventually closed in the 1950s and converted to retail use, which its been ever since. I haven't seen it for myself yet, but the current proprietor told me that there are vestiges of the old theatre interior still gracing what is now the storeroom.
