4500 Beacon at Sunnyside -- Residence of Former Chicago Mayor and Illinois Governor

Edward Fitzsimmons Dunne (October 12, 1853–May 24, 1937) was a Democrat who was the governor of Illinois from 1913 to 1917; he previously served as the 37th mayor of Chicago, from April 5, 1905 to 1907. In 1921 he helped found an organization called the "National Unity Council" to combat the Ku Klux Klan. He lived at 4500 Beacon Street (now an empty lot).

  4. Raging arguement between old Uptown kids. Back in the 50's Broadway had several auto dealers. Kailer-Youngquist Olds, the Cadillac dealership on Foster and Broadway, and the Chevrolet dealership on the east side of Broadway, just north of Lawrence. (Was the restaurant on the corner the Golden Pheasant or was that later?). Does anyone remember the name of the dealership before it was sold to Arnie Yusim?

  5. Re Raging Argument 3/13/2010: I thought the Golden Pheasant was on Wilson just west of Broadway. Wasn't the restaurant at Lawrence and Broadway called Peter Pan something?

    1. Yep peter pan northeast corner. Back in the mid sixties I watch a lady get blown into one of big plate glass windows on the Lawrence side by a blast of wind. I think she was cut pretty bad. I was about 7 or 8 at the time 55 now.
