Matchbook from Uptown National Bank

Thanks to B., who once worked as a building engineer at Bridgeview Bank, for this item. She found it in one of the old desks in the bank building.

It was interesting to see the image of the Uptown National Bank Building on your web site. I grew up in the building directly to the south of the bank building int the building known as the Hamilton Building at 4737 N. Broadway. The Hamilton Building was comprised of seven stores on the first floor and approximately 25 offices on the second floor. My father was the janitor of the building and we lived in an apartment on the second floor directly abutting the bank building. The building was located on the east side of Broadway and the west side of Clifton. Some of the stores in the building were a ladieswear store, Beydas Chidren's Store, Violet Page Health Foods Store, and a stationery and office supplies store. The second floor was occupied by offices for doctors, dentists, insurance salesmen, dental labs, inventors, and an accounting firm. I attended both Stockton School and Stewart School where I graduated and graduated from Senn High School. I hhave so many fond memories of growing up at Lawrence and Broadway and the diverse cultures existing near there. I feel very fortunate to have experienced such a childhood. I will try to find some more memory jogging blogs and if you have any questions I might be able to remember the answers to, please let me know.

Thanks for the memories!
