Uptown Bank, Broadway and Lawrence, Chicago, 1956

Uptown Bank. Is that a corner of the Green Mill marquee?

  1. The good old Peter Pan restaurant. I didn't know it went all the way back to '56.

  2. We had a reader write in before who mentioned that there was a Peter Pan dress shop kitty corner across the intersection from the restaurant.

I wish this was a better photo; I'd like to find one of the restaurant marquee close up.

  3. Joanne - - re: marquis - - I don't think the Green Mill had a sign that stuck out from the building. That is probably a corner of the Uptown Theater sign, guessing from the distance from the corner.

  4. This photo was taken on the west side of Broadway ave just north of Lawrence, in front of where The Book Box bookstore once stood. The Green Mill is a few doors down from here, directly across the street from Peter Pan (known as the Saxony when I lived in that section of Uptown in the 1970s).
