  1. I was wondering if that crossing gate is on Sheridan road and are we looking west?
I remember back in the 50's there was a single track crossing Montrose at ground level that Lill coal cars would use.
The ground level track was between the montrose elevated and a second bridge that was removed I believe in the late eighties. That ground level track would slope up to the elevated tracks starting just north of montrose where that electrical equipment is located. When I look at Google earth I can still some vestiges off rail beds from montrose along the east wall of the cemetery and south on Seminary past Wrigley field. I can remember the rail cars loaded with coal lined up next to the cemetery wall. I think but I'm not sure, wasn't there a Lill coal yard along the elevated tracks on the south side of Ainslie.
Thanks I just love these old images.
