ReplyDeleteA fascinating book, "Poor Whites in Chicago," authored by Todd Gitlin and Nancy Hollander, is hard to find. Both authors went on to write about the 60s, but this early work -- rooted in the Uptown based JOIN activist movement -- explores an Uptown few know about today, but which your own post touches on. I really do enjoy this site.
