  2. A fascinating book, "Poor Whites in Chicago," authored by Todd Gitlin and Nancy Hollander, is hard to find. Both authors went on to write about the 60s, but this early work -- rooted in the Uptown based JOIN activist movement -- explores an Uptown few know about today, but which your own post touches on. I really do enjoy this site.
